Cancer: A Systems Biology Approach to Understanding a Complex Disease

The event will feature a panel including:
Adrian Ozinsky, MD, PhD - An ISB faculty member who is currently focusing on developing new technologies for conducting experiments on hundreds of single cells rapidly and simultaneously. The information acquired through such approaches has the potential to significantly advance the study of many diseases, including cancer.

Dan Martin, MD - An ISB faculty member who focuses his research on the identification of prostate cancer biomarkers. Early detection of these signal molecules in the blood is critical because by the time symptoms develop, cancer that started in the prostate has often spread to other organs, making successful treatment much more challenging.

Kasra Badiozamani, MD - A Virgina Mason physician who specializes in radiation oncology, breast cancer, prostate cancer and bladder cancer.

Parking Suggestion:
The Chase Center Parking Garage is located below the Seattle Art Museum and right across the street from Pike Brewing. The entrance is on Union Street between First and Second Avenues. The fee is $7 for parking after 5 p.m. and up to midnight.

Institute for Systems Biology

The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) is an internationally renowned, non-profit research institute headquartered in Seattle and dedicated to the study and application of systems biology. Founded by Leroy Hood, Alan Aderem and Ruedi Aebersold, ISB seeks to unravel the mysteries of human biology and identify strategies for predicting and preventing diseases such as cancer, diabetes and AIDS. ISB's systems approach integrates biology, computation and technological development, enabling scientists to analyze all elements in a biological system rather than one gene or protein at a time. Founded in 2000, the Institute has grown to 12 faculty and more than 300 staff members; an annual budget of more than $35 million; and an extensive network of academic and industrial partners.
